Georgia Avenue
|
|
This new building on Georgia Avenue near Howard University is
built with materials and details to evoke without mimicking
the characteristics of the neighborhood. Golden yellow brick,
cast stone, painted steel and corrugated metal panels are detailed
with a modern approach. Glass is set within large panels including
first floor 'show' windows that enliven the street. The design
allows for collaboration between artists, craftsmen and the
architects. West African symbols designed into the architectural
elements represent hope, rebirth and strength as this new building
begins the rejuvenation envisioned by the city for the 7th Street/Georgia
Avenue Corridor.
