Community Development

BELLArchitects is involved in a number of community development projects along the commercial corridors of H Street, Georgia Avenue and 4th Street. These projects include new and adaptive reuse of low scale masonry buildings with retail, education, office and arts uses. In addition to design and historic preservation work, we are also involved in helping the communities with needs assessments, resources surveys and capacity building of nascent neigborhood institutions.

Rehabilitation of the two-story brick buildings at 1900 4th Street is an example of helping a localized area of Eckington regain their neighborhood serving retail and offices uses that were lost when much of this building was vacated in the 1990's. ABC Fourth Street, LLC is breathing life back into this Eckington neighborhood by providing space for services within walking distance of the surrounding neighborhood.
