Renovation of this 1939 Art Moderne building is critical to the stability of the commercial corridor along H Street, NE. This building was vacant for approximately 10 years. Reuse of the movie theater and shops for an arts and education complex will help stabilize and enrich the surrounding neighborhood economically and culturally.
View above is looking west at the alley space. The underutilized
alley space between the original shops and theater space has
been captured to create a congregation space to display art
and allow patrons to interact, get food and drink, etc. before
the show and during intermission.
The space has been economically reconfigured by retaining
the existing brick walls installing a concrete floor and enclosing
the space with a 'glass roof'.
